Have you ever gone to the doctors office and looked around noticing some things hanging on the wall? Have you ever seen it and think what is it all about? Normally those signs are hanging on the wall just outside of the door and there is written the name of the Doctor and what field they are in and with other information. Have you ever seen that before? If you have then congratulations on finding this as today we are going to talk about it!
Most of the time when you go to the Doctors and see those signs, there are a lot of writing on it that may sometimes be a little confusing and you don’t know what it means at all. Sometimes there are these short forms like MBBS or MD, have you ever wondered as to what are those written on it? What is MBBS and what is MD? Today we are going to answer that curious question.
What is MBBS?
What MBBS stands for is Bachelor of Medicine-Bachelor of surgery often for short is MBBS. What this is is actually an undergraduate and first professional degree in medicine. Normally MBBS includes many varieties of subjects but it is designed to train students in all fields of medicine.
What it includes are Human Anatomy, Physiology, applied Medical Biochemistry, applied pharmacology, Human Pathology, Human Microbiology, Otolaryngology, Dermatology, Pediatrics and even general surgery. So these subjects would fully train one how to be an all rounded doctor from head to toe and even be able to do surgery. MBBS does vary in different countries but a typical course is completed in 4 and a half years. In most of the countries, the students are required to complete an internship before being awarded the certificate in order to demonstrate sufficient experience because it is very important for the medical student to have much exposure in this field, learning more and more experience and helping more people become better and more accurate at solving patient health problems.
What is MD?
MD on the other hand is actually a Masters or Postgraduate degree and you can only be able to go into MD after successfully completing a MBBS degree. So it is not a different path but it is in stages that you need to complete in order to reach to the top. You will need to first get your MBBS and then move on to MD. Some countries consider MD a professional doctorate for surgeons and physicians but there are other countries that consider it as a research degree like having the value of PhD.
So if you want to reach MD you will need to first go through the MBBS course, only then you can go into this specialisation course, MD. MD specialisation includes Pediatrics, Gynecology, Obstetrics, Ophthalmology, Dentistry. An MD is expected to gradually make the students specialists in the medical branch of their choice. MD Degrees are typically completed in 2 years and various universities and colleges across the globe need a submission or dissertation and these to be able to enter in this specialisation course.
So, with all that being said, if you are interested in going into the doctor field, it is safe to say that no matter what you will need to go into MBBS first. So if you, one day, also want these qualifications hanging just outside the door of your office then apply for MBBS course in Malaysia. Start the journey now while you can and start to grind and reap all that you have sowed with the rewards hanging on the wall saying how far you have come and you have succeeded.
