Type of Cement For Building Materials Malaysia
Colored cement had properties similar to an OPC and white cement. Manufacturers mix 5% to 10% mineral pigments with OPC to achieve the desired color. Like white cement, this type is commonly used by builders for decorative purposes and projects to enhance their designs.
Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC)
Ordinary Portland Cement is the most common type of cement used in manufacture and use worldwide. “Portland” is a generic name that derived from a type of building stone quarried on the Isle of Portland in Dorset, England. OPC is suitable for most general concrete work and mortar or stucco construction projects.
Pozzolanic Portland Cement (PPC)
Manufacturers make Pozzolanic Portland Cement by grinding pozzolanic clinker, sometimes with additions of gypsum or calcium sulfate, with ordinary Portland cement. Compared to OPC, it has higher resistance to various chemical reactions in concrete. PPC is commonly used for projects such as bridges, docks, dams, marine structures, sewage treatment plants or underwater concrete projects.
Contractors or construction workers can choose rapid cement for its high resilience in the early stages of the hardening process. Its resilience after three days is comparable to the resilience of OPC after seven days of the same water-cement ratio. Rapid cement can have an increased lime content combined with a finer grinding process or better strength development. Commonly used for projects where formwork is removed at an early stage or where the goal is to increase construction speed and reduce costs.

Low Temperature Cement
Manufacturers produce low temperature cement by monitoring the proportion of tricalcium aluminate in the mix to ensure it remains below 6% of the total. This helps keep heat down during the hydration process, making this type of cement more resistant to sulfates and less reactive than other types of cement. It may be suitable for structural or mass concrete projects to prevent cracking due to heat . However, low temperature cement may have a longer initial setting time than other types.
Sulfate Resistant Cement
Sulfate Resistant Cement helps reduce the risk of sulfate side effects in concrete. Its most common use is building foundations in soils with high sulfate content. This type of concrete can also be beneficial for projects such as lining canals, culverts, and retaining walls.
Blast Furnace Slag Cement
Manufacturers make Blast Furnace Slag Cement B. by grinding Clinker with up to 60% slag. This creates cement with many of the same properties as OPC. However, they can be less expensive to manufacture than other types, making them a good choice for budget-conscious projects.
High Alumina Cement
High Alumina Cement is a type of alumina cement that hardens rapidly by melting bauxite and lime together and grinding them with a clinker. It has high compressive strength and can be more flexible and workable than OPC. Construction crews can use high-alumina cement for projects where cement will be exposed to extreme weather conditions such as high temperatures or freezing.
